We are looking for a motivated, organized, and hands-on Senior Protein Scientist to join our team. Familiarity with organic chemistry, protein chemistry, and analytical methods for the characterization of proteins in both the native and chemically modified states is a must.

How you will add value to 20BLOC

This is a discovery focused position. You will lead part of our development program of a novel hemoglobin-based oxygen carrying (HBOC) product as well as other protein related products.  It involves hands-on R&D work in the laboratory, directing and carrying out experiments as well as coming up with technical improvements and novel product concepts.  

Day to day responsibilities

  • Design and carry out experiments to develop synthetic methods for both small molecules and hemoglobin derivatives
  • Purify and characterize reaction products using appropriate purification methods and analytical equipment
  • Lead part of a multi-disciplinary R&D program to conceptualize, design, and implement novel protein chemistry and analytical methods
  • Document and present experimental procedures and results
  • Help establish quality control protocols and solve problems encountered in the laboratory

 

Education, Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • PhD in biochemistry, organic chemistry, or a related field, and 5+ years of experience in protein purification, protein chemistry, and/or organic synthesis is a must
  • Experience in antibody-drug conjugation, development of enzyme or protein assays, and functionalization and characterization of proteins and peptides
  • Experience in characterization of purified enzymes or proteins, including application of LCMS to characterize the sites of functionalization of proteins
  • Knowledge in the production of purified enzymes or proteins at lab scale and beyond
  • Ability to write and communicate succinctly, concisely, and effectively
  • Self-driven and comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced and team environment

This position is a full-time in a laboratory (not remote) opportunity located in Thousand Oaks, CA.
